chichen itza

when you haven't blogged for a really long time, and then suddenly want to blog again, your brain goes into overload (or at least mine does). this last year has been so crazy and there are so many things that i want to write about and share. mostly for me because i'm awful at actually writing in a journal so this is all i got.

my last week in africa kenneth texted me and asked if i wanted to go to mexico for a week with his sister and brother-in-law. i thought yolo and said yes! a few days later i went from tanzania >> ethiopia >> amsterdam >> washington dc (spent a day there with my sister) >> atlanta, georgia (took a week break) >> mexico! ole!

we met up in the cancun airport (quite the hassle trying to find his sister and brother-in-law (renee & dan) due to some miscommunication with the mexican airport staff…). but we finally met up and set off to our first hotel.

we stayed in this cute little hotel in downtown cancun just for one night because it was close to the airport. it was funny to walk the streets and hear renee talk about how ghetto and sketchy it was because in reality it was, but since i had just gotten back from africa, i felt like it was the safest place in the world. kind of a bad new sense of confidence i gained since living there. it was probably the scariest place i have ever been in my life so now everything else seems like a dream. that will probably get me in trouble one day…

the next morning we headed out to chichen itza, seriously amazing! it is one of the seven wonders of the world and i now know why. i don't have many words for it, just that it was beautiful. i'll let the photos do the talking.
they had these iguana's walking around everywhere in mexico
i got engaged and then went to africa a few weeks later and had to leave my engagement ring at home, so i was pretty excited to finally get to wear it again :)
i'm so glad we took this last minute trip, it was so rad.
with warmth & love,
lo
