Iceland || Day 6

Our 6th day was our longest day for driving around the island. There was a cool heated swimming pool that we wanted to go to but we decided to skip it because of time.
So our first stop was Fosslaug Hot Pot. This one involved a lot of exploring to find haha. We weren't entirely sure where it was and ended up on the wrong side of the river at first. We had to walk past a horse stable to get to it and if we had just typed in directions to the waterfall that's right beside it, that would have been much easier.

The location of this one was so beautiful! Being right by the river and the the waterfall, I really loved it. But all in all, it ranks lower on our list of favorite hot pots because it isn't super deep or super warm. There were areas where it was hotter but in chilly Iceland, it needs to be hot to really enjoy. It was right next to the falls; in the picture above, you can see the rapids forming and that's the top of the waterfall.
Reykjafoss wasn't high on my list for waterfalls to see, but I'm so glad we got to see it! It's much bigger than I anticipated and I really loved the hike to get here.
We continued our drive to Hvitserkur, a cool rock formation in the middle of the water.
It was low tide when we were there so we were able to walk out to it, which was pretty cool. The viewpoint to see it was up on the mountain and I figured that was all we would see, but Kenneth was like, "Let's just go walk to it!" So we scaled down the mountain and made our way to it.
I had a good laugh after the top picture was taken because Kenneth was jumping from rock to rock to not get wet and then totally slipped and soaked the bottom half of his pants haha.
^ I didn't notice it when we were there, but looking at it now, I feel like it looks like an animal? Like an ant eater or giant dinosaur? Do you guys see the face to my left? The mouth is the giant crack on the bottom and it has a horn above it's eye? I can't unsee it now haha
We continued the drive and checked in to Guesthouse Hof. We had a hot tub at our place so we enjoyed a soak and relaxed for a little bit before heading out to see Kirkjufellsfoss.
^ Kirkjufellsfoss.
I think it's important to note that the road to get here drives between the mountain and the waterfall. We were both a little confused when driving and it said that we were 2 seconds away and we didn't understand how that was possible. It's a little bit of an optical illusion. But maybe we are the only people that were confused by that haha.
When we were driving back, we saw 2 guys in the ocean surfing. We pulled over and creeped for a little bit. I can't even begin to imagine how ice cold that water was. But it looked so amazing and both of us were wishing we could join them.
There's a lot of horses around Iceland and normally they just do their own thing, but these guys were staring straight at us without budging haha. I don't know why we found it so funny.
Later on when we were driving, we saw a group of horses that got out of their fence and were running along the road. Part of me hopes they were returned back to their owner because I'd be so sad if my pets got loose. But part of me was rooting them on as they were running free. They looked so happy!
Our plan was to call it a night but there was a chance of rain in the forecast for the next day, so we decided to visit one last stop, Arnarstapi.
I really loved this region, it was so fun to walk along the coast and explore the different views. Fun fact, the girl that took our engagement pictures eloped in this area. I can totally see why because it's so beautiful!
How cool is this arch??
^ Can you spot Kenneth?
After another long and amazing day exploring, we called it a night and headed back to our house.
I don't have any other pictures of the guesthouse besides this, but we shared it with 2 guys our age from France. Unfortunately we didn't get to really talk to them because... language barrier haha. But we shared a kitchen/living/bathroom with them and then had 2 separate rooms. This was the most outdated place we stayed at. It definitely felt like it was from the 80s, but it was pretty spacious, overlooked the ocean (hard to tell in the picture because it was foggy) and we were big fans of having our own hot tub. There aren't any grocery stores or gas stations close by in this area so we bought groceries beforehand and cooked up some pasta, soaked in the hot tub and relaxed.
